  The Biggest Race of All

Hawaii Ironman Race

Hi Moe! So I'm back from Kona, it all went well at the biggest race of them all! I had another fun swim in the ocean, even without wetsuit. It seems so consistent, every time I go to low altitude swimming is easy. No leg cramps this time. I hitched a ride behind some big guy, and did not have to sight once all the way from start to finish, just watched his feet. My time of 1:14 was respectable for the conditions, right in the middle of the field. Water was rough with currents stronger than normal, and top professionals did it in about 0:53, a few minutes slower than typical 0:46-0:49. Bike was fun too, perfect pace and splits. I fell apart at mile 10 on the run, but I'm not a hot weather person, so I don't know if there is any way to help it. Still, I held my position. I was the last qualifier in the race in June, and I wanted to prove to myself that it was not a fluke. My goal was to finish in the top half of my age group, and I crossed the line 62th out of 170. I managed to beat a lot of guys who are (let's face it) better than me, even some winners of recent qualifying races. Thanks so much for your continuous support and coaching. It felt so good to come out of the water and see most bikes still parked there! Maybe I'm not as fast as I should be, but I have more confidence and swim easier than a couple of years ago. I do not experience pre-swim anxieties anymore, don't trash myself and have way more energy saved for biking. I brought something back for you, I don't know if you come at all near GAC, or I could ship it if you give me the address. You are one of few special people that cared about my training and performance, thanks again. I hope that the dust has settled and everything goes well in your life. Adam P.
